The University of Kentucky and Toyota (TSSC*) are teaming up to host a one-of-a-kind Learning Tour. The event will be held at the UK Lexington campus on November 19, 20, and 21, 2024.
This event offers a rare opportunity to:
- Develop an accurate understanding of basic TPS concepts and the ability to identify common misconceptions about TPS.
- Meet and interact with UK students pursuing a degree in Lean Systems Engineering Technology (LST).
- Tour Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky and two other area companies that are successfully implementing a lean culture.
- Observe LST students demonstrating the TPS thinking and tools they have learned and are applying in real-world scenarios.
What you will experience and learn:
- Gain a basic understanding of the Toyota Production System directly from active Toyota members (TSSC).
- Develop an accurate understanding of basic TPS concepts and the ability to identify common misconceptions about TPS.
- Learn about UK’s unique undergraduate program, Lean Systems Engineering Technology (LST).
- Meet and interact with 3rd and 4th-year students in the Lean Systems Engineering Technology degree program.
- Understand and observe lean manufacturing principles at TMMK, Toyota’s largest manufacturing plant.
- Visit other area companies that are successfully implementing a lean culture.
- Observe LST students in the UK Cylinder lab demonstrating the transformation from traditional manufacturing to TPS manufacturing.
The cost is $3000 per person, including lunch and dinner (lodging excluded).
*TSSC is the Toyota Production System Support Center, a not-for-profit corporation affiliated with Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), located in Plano, Texas, established by Toyota Motor Corporation in 1992 as the Toyota Supplier Support Center to share Toyota Production System (TPS) knowledge with North American manufacturing companies and other organizations that have a true desire to learn and adopt TPS. In 2011, TSSC became a not-for-profit in order to share its know-how more broadly with nonprofits and other community organizations.
