Catherine Maware

Assistant Professor for the Department of Engineering Technology


Catherine Maware is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology. Catherine came to the UK Institute of Research for Technology Development (IR4TD) as a Post-Doctoral Scholar in August 2021. Her research focuses on the challenges organizations face in adopting the Toyota Production Philosophy and the impact of Industry 4.0 on Lean Manufacturing. She has also evaluated the online and face-to-face teaching models for the True Lean program and taught students in the Student Lean Certification and Lean Systems Program events. During her time within IR4TD, Catherine has assisted in the training and facilitating Lean Manufacturing topics such as seven wastes, Material and information flowcharting, 8 Step problem-solving, and Team leader role for Student and Professional Lean Systems certification.

Before coming to the University of Kentucky as a Post-Doctoral Scholar, Catherine worked as a part-time Lecturer at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, where she mentored undergraduate and graduate students researching Lean Manufacturing. She also served as a Lecturer for eight years at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Zimbabwe. Catherine holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education from Chinhoyi University of Technology and three engineering degrees, a Bachelor of Technology in Production Engineering from Chinhoyi University of Technology, a Master of Engineering in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management from the National University of Technology in Zimbabwe, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Systems Engineering from the University of Pretoria.
